  CLIMATE

"June to October is  my personal best time to visit this country for its wildlife.  The weather is warm, cool in the evenings and with little to no rain at that time of year, the bush is less dense and there is minimum surface water - excellent for wildlife viewing - one also gets to see the lesser animals too with the shorter grasses.

To really get close sightings of the more exotic animals such as lion, elephant and especially leopard, then you would really need to visit one of a few of the Private Game Reserves adjoining the Kruger National Park that I know, consistently produce excellent close sightings of these high profile and general wildlife. My personal preference for a wildlife safari is for any of the listed Lodges of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Here the animals have become more habituated to the vehicles, as the Rangers take their vehicles and track the animals into the bush, off the road network (something we are not able to do in Kruger). This results in awesome close and clear sightings of our wildlife. Bring lots of film or digital memory for your cameras."

Jeremy Williamson - Specialist Wildlife Guide
As Robert Frost wrote "I took the road less travelled and that has made all the difference"

Temperatures and seasons

Spring and Summer are rainy seasons and the bush is lush and green. Many animals give birth at this time of year and summer-visiting migrant bird species can also be seen.

AVERAGE TEMPERATURES ( range from) :

SPRING ( September to November)

Minimum : 20 Degrees Celsius
Maximum : 31+ Degrees Celsius
SUMMER ( December to February)

Minimum : 22 Degrees Celsius
Maximum : 35+ Degrees Celsius

Autumn and winter are dry; the bush is less dense and animals visit the waterholes in front of camps more often due to the lack of surface water.

AUTUMN ( March to May )

Minimum : 19 Degrees Celsius
Maximum : 28 Degrees Celsius
WINTER ( June to August)

Minimum : 12 Degrees Celsius
Maximum : 25 Degrees Celsius

MALARIA

Malaria risk area. Prophylactic measures should therefore be taken all year round.
Anti-malaria tablets should be taken before, during and after your visit. Consult your doctory or pharmacist.
Mosquito repellant should be applied, especially during the summer between dusk and dawn.
